“A good storyteller is a person with a good memory and hopes other people haven’t.”
- Irvin S. Cobb
Dear Denny,
As I told you both on BBm and in Twitter, I was SO overwhelmed when I got your letter and read it. And I am still. It’s such a beautiful letter. It’s touching, honest, and sincere. Thank you, Denny.
Actually, I am not just overwhelmed, but honored as well. However, I understand when you wrote in your letter, “To be honest, I actually have no idea what to tell you in this letter. I just feel like writing for you. I’ve got no question to ask, no answer to hear from.” That’s how I’m feeling right now. Yes, we are friends. We’re even good friends and we communicate to each other quite a lot, but it’s not easy to write a “love” letter to someone that we have never met in person.
Anyway, I’d like to tell you that each time I tell you that I love those letters you’ve been writing since January 14, I really mean every word I say. I don’t just say it to make you happy. I am stingy at giving flattery, actually.
Dear Occasional Story Teller,
There are many writers out there who can write beautiful stories and letters, but I don’t find many who write with their heart and be honest with their writings. Actually, one needs not to read your blog to find out how heartfelt and talented you are as a writer, but by reading your timeline on Twitter, they’d already know how beautiful your mind is. You know how to breathe into those letters to make them alive, and everyone who reads it feel like the letters were actually written for them. They might even hope that they’d get such kind of sweet letter, like I did. Lucky me, I got one from you :))
Denny,
We do the share the same thing. Rain inspires me as well. Other things that inspire me mostly are my own (happy, but mostly sad) life and other people. And you’re one of those people who inspire me, for you’re great at putting what’s on your mind and your heart into words. Maybe someday we can write together. A book, maybe? But I can’t write fictions, so maybe I’d just make it seems fictitious. Hehe :D
I am so looking forward to meet you in person for the first time on February 12 in Bandung. I hope we both can make it. Let’s take some pictures on that day and store some stories in our mind and heart, so we can write another letter to each other next year :))
This is my story, and let’s not eat Indomie when we meet to make a story for their “Ini ceritaku, apa ceritamu”, @dennyed. I’m really sick of instant noodle :|
- A fan.
P.S. An American musician named Jimmy Buffet once said, “As a writer, I’m more of a listener than a writer, as if I hear something I will write it down.” So Mr. Listener, someday you’ll be a great writer. And forget me not when the time comes :))![]()
